A backflow device must be tested annually because it contains moving parts that wear. A breakdown in these parts could render the device useless and allow Backflow.
Who can test Backflow Devices?
Only an individual who is a Certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester and has been certified by the British Columbia Water & Waste Association is permitted to test and repair Backflow Devices within British Columbia. At Accredited Backflow Testers our technicians are ticketed to test backflow-preventers in accordance with BCWWA procedures
Who is responsible for having a Backflow Device tested?
Generally, the owner of the facility or facility manager is responsible for having the device tested. If the Backflow Device belongs to the tenant then the tenant is responsible for having the device tested.
What are the consequences if I fail to comply with the testing request?
Failure to comply with the notification to test your Backflow Device may result in discontinuation of water service and fines.
What is Backflow?
Backflow is a flow of solid, liquid or gas from any source opposite to the normal direction of flow, back into the potable water supply or system.
What is Back siphonage?
Back siphonage occurs when there is a partial vacuum (negative pressure) in a water supply system, which draws the water from a contaminated source into a potable water supply.
What is Backpressure?
Backpressure is caused whenever a potable system is connected to a non-potable supply operating under a higher pressure by means of a pump, boiler, etc. There is a high risk that the non-potable water may be forced into the potable system whenever these interconnections are not properly protected.
How do I pay?
We accept E-transfer, Cash, Cheque or Credit. If you’d like to pay by credit card, we’re more than happy to accept payment this way with a standard 3.5% processing fee.
